The Tree Spirit Flutes

Long Ago My Grandfather gifted me the Knowledge of the Flute.
How to find a branch of strong spirit, How to remove the heart of the Branch.
He told me how when a flute is made the player of that flute
breathes his heart into the Branch to become and join with the heart
and spirit of the tree. The Tree sings what is in you're Heart.
My flutes are always made from the branch or trunk of a single
Tree to honor the spirit of that tree.
The Trees that gift me their wood are  from Northern Colorado a place rich
in Native American History.
I am not a full time flute maker, though I have 3 decades of experience.
These flutes are crafted in the Colorado Rockies at my home
in Cherokee Park next to the heat of a pot belly stove, and
are made out my love of the Instrument,
My dedication to preserve the knowledge I have been gifted,
and to Honor the memory of my Forefathers and the
Trees whose spirit resides within.

The Tree

The Branch Came from a large Grandmother Willow growing on the banks of the Cache La Poudre River. The Tree still lives and can be seen on the Evolution pages. This was one of the lower branches which had died off and was carefully pruned from the tree, It has been gifted the chance to live on as a flute. Native Americans have used the bark and the leaves of the Willow for medicinal purpose for centuries. The medicinal part of the plant is the inner bark and was used as a pain reliever for a variety of ailments. Cherokees used an infusion of the bark for fever, rheumatic pains, insomnia, dysentery, and sore throats. A poultice made from the bark was used to heal wounds. The active ingredient in the willow is the same as that in aspirin (salicylic acid). The Bark and Branches are used for Basket weaving, brooms, sweat lodges, ropes, and a variety of other things.

The Area

This piece was born of a Wet Lands area on the outskirts of Fort Collins, along side the Cache La Poudre River, a spot which is home to Ducks, Geese, Red Wing Black Birds, Meadow Larks, Musk Rats, Beaver, and many other types of Wild Life. The songs of these birds can be heard on the area sound file.

The Flute

This Flute was Made using a "Natural Construction Method" which means I followed all the natural curves of the Branch in its construction. Weather Checks and worm holes are stabilized and inlaid with Malachite (Found on my Ranch) to form Designs drawn by the tree its self and sometimes  I add a little to make native symbols appear. This flute is also made in the old ways as far sound hole construction and  Tuning  Giving each instrument its own unique character and voice making it truly one of a kind in all respects. This Flute is in the key of >>>***<<< according to my electronic guitar tuner. The Stand is not Included. This flute has a bore 16 19/32 inches long, and 3/4 inches in Diameter, The Overall length of the flute is 21 3/4 inches, and the finger holes average 31/32 inches apart.
The Approximate pre construction note of this flute is G#.

Metaphysical Properties of the Malachite Inlay

Malachite stimulates physical and psychic vision, and concentration.  Releases and draws out  depression, and anger.  Protects well by powerfully cleaning the auric field, rapidly absorbing undesirable energies.  Malachite also magnifies the positive, and so it is useful if your mood is definitely on the upswing. It should not be used in healing without careful consideration of who is doing the healing. It is useful for relaxation and it is said to awaken healing qualities.
