The Tree
Spirit Flutes
Long Ago My Grandfather gifted
me the Knowledge of the Flute.
How to find a branch of strong spirit, How to remove the heart of the Branch.
He told me how when a flute is made the player of that flute
breathes his heart into the Branch to become and join with the heart
and spirit of the tree. The Tree sings what is in you're Heart.
My flutes are always made from the branch or trunk of a single
Tree to honor the spirit of that tree.
The Trees that gift me their wood are from Northern Colorado a place
rich
in Native American History.
I am not a full time flute maker, though I have 3 decades of experience.
These flutes are crafted in the Colorado Rockies at my home
in Cherokee Park next to the heat of a pot belly stove, and
are made out my love of the Instrument,
My dedication to preserve the knowledge I have been gifted,
and to Honor the memory of my Forefathers and the
Trees whose spirit resides within.

This Flute is Born of a branch
of a Red Bud Tree which was growing in Ft Collins, One of my
arborist friends saved this piece from the wood chipper so I could give it the
gift of living on as a flute. Native Americans had many uses for the red bud
such as using it to make a Die, Baskets, The bark was made into a tea to treat
whooping
cough. Taking cold infusions of the roots and inner bark treated fevers and congestion. An
infusion of the bark was used to treat vomiting and fever. During winters, the plants were used for
firewood. Because it is one of the first plants to
flower in the spring, the blossoming branches were
brought into the homes to “drive winter out.
Children were fond of eating the blossoms
redbud as a treat.
One Legend references the Red Bud as Follows.
The Woman gave Seets-a' ma a beautiful bag. It was red as blood, for it was made
of the flowers of the red bud tree. In this bag was the color and fragrance of
the flowers which grew on the Tree Of Light which fell down from heaven into the
Great water.

This Flute was Made using a "Natural Construction Method" which means I
followed all the natural curves of the Branch in its construction. Weather Checks and worm
holes are stabilized and inlaid with Colorado Amethyst to form Designs drawn by the tree
its self and sometimes I add a little to make native symbols appear.
This
flute is also made in the old ways as far sound hole construction and Tuning Giving each instrument its own unique character and
voice making it truly one of a kind in all respects. This Flute is in
the key of G according to my electronic guitar tuner. The Stand is
not Included. This flute has a bore 18 15/32 inches long, and 3/4 inches in Diameter, The Overall length of the flute
is 20 15/32 inches, and the finger holes average 1 1/32 inches apart.
Metaphysical Properties of the Amethyst Inlay

Amethyst contains the grounding color of red with the energy of blue, which is expanding, spacious and flow of peace. Amethyst is the color that you see in the sky as twilight transitions into night. Amethyst takes you on this transition from the magic time of dusk to a conscious shift into a different place. Amethyst is considered a Master Healing stone.
