The Tree
Spirit Flutes
Long Ago My Grandfather gifted
me the Knowledge of the Flute.
How to find a branch of strong spirit, How to remove the heart of the Branch.
He told me how when a flute is made the player of that flute
breathes his heart into the Branch to become and join with the heart
and spirit of the tree. The Tree sings what is in you're Heart.
My flutes are always made from the branch or trunk of a single
Tree to honor the spirit of that tree.
The Trees that gift me their wood are from Northern Colorado a place
rich
in Native American History.
I am not a full time flute maker, though I have 3 decades of experience.
These flutes are crafted in the Colorado Rockies at my home
in Cherokee Park next to the heat of a pot belly stove, and
are made out my love of the Instrument,
My dedication to preserve the knowledge I have been gifted,
and to Honor the memory of my Forefathers and the
Trees whose spirit resides within.
| The Tree |
This flute
is a gift of a large Colorado
Native Wild
Plum tree which grew below the northeast dam of Horsetooth Reservoir in a
field next to my home. The growth told of a soul that was 90 years old at the end
of its its life. To my personal knowledge it was standing dead for the
last 15 years ,perhaps much longer,
making it much older then the reservoir its self.
The Wild Plum is perhaps the most beautiful but Difficult wood I work with, but
the beauty of its heart is unsurpassed
| The Area |
The
Area in which it is born of was formerly
a creek bed before the Horse
tooth Reservoir dam was built and lays in the Valley formed by the Cache La
Poudre River. Many Native artifacts from Sioux, Pawnee and Cheyenne are found
here. This is also a home to many animals and the sound file of the area
features the songs of Coyotes and Frogs.

This Flute was Made using a "Block Construction Method" which means a square and straight block was cut out of the of the Branch in its construction. Weather Checks and worm holes are stabilized and inlaid with Sodalite to form Designs drawn by the tree its self and sometimes I add a little to make native symbols appear. This flute is also made in the old ways as far sound hole construction and Tuning, Giving each instrument its own unique character and voice making it truly one of a kind in all respects. This Flute is in the key of >>>***<<< according to my electronic guitar tuner. The Stand is not Included. This flute has a bore
19 5/32 inches long, and 3/4 inches in Diameter, The Overall length of the flute is 23 5/32 inches, and the finger holes average 1 1/16 inches apart.Metaphysical Properties of the Sodalite Inlay
Sodalite is most recognized for healing, meditation and wisdom. This a good stone for general communication for self and writing. It is used for expressing ideas. It is also known to enhance community relationships. Considered a stone that is still evolving, sodalite can strongly affect changes in your attitude about yourself. It helps you be more objective and less critical about ways of dealing with existence. It is a stone associated with studying.
